Why Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that the nervous system (your brain and spinal cord) controls the function of every system of your body - all the cells, tissues, and organs.  In fact, your body is much like the Internet: the brain is the computer, the spinal cord is the information highway, the spinal vertebrae which house nerves, arteries and veins are the links to your organs. The disruption of the function of these tissues or organs and the nerve control is called VSC or Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Chiropractic is the science of finding these areas of spinal malfunction, the art of correcting them and the philosophy of all things natural as we have been created.

The Art

Chiropractic doctors have mastered the adjusting "art" of chiropractic. This includes a comprehensive evaluation, a review of health history, arrival at a clear diagnosis, and a recommended customized treatment plan for each patient. This includes specific spinal adjustments. Adjustment describes many hundreds of ways and techniques of directed and controlled pressure to restore spinal segments to a more normal position and range of motion. This aids in increased flexibility, increased immunological function and increased life energy. Chiropractic is truly an art!

The Philosophy

Chiropractic philosophy recognizes that the power that created the body can heal the body (as long as there is no interference). The doctor does not heal you - he is a partner with you so that your body can be put in the correct environment to heal itself. The main purpose of the chiropractor is to reduce interference to your inborn, innate healing ability.

Tips for a Healthy Back

  1. Get regular exercise: This does not have to be anything overly strenuous. You will be surprised how something as simple as a daily walk can make a huge difference.
  2. Eat a healthy diet: Proper nutrition will allow the body to repair itself more easily
  3. Maintain good posture: Are you sitting up straight as you read this?  Stop slouching!!
  4. Stretch your spine before and after sports: This loosens up your muscles.
  5. Don't overload a backpack or purse: Try to carry it over both shoulders to balance the load.
  6. Stretch your legs and back after each hour of sitting- Wherever you may be, regular stretching  will help to keep you from tightening up or injuring yourself further. Click here for some stretching exercises from The Walking Site.
  7. Never cradle the phone between your neck and shoulder.  If you think it is necessary to do this, perhaps you should consider purchasing a headset.  There are many inexpensive solutions available.
  8. Sleep on your back or side, not on your stomach: This will help to keep your spine in line and reduces the risk of hurting your neck while you sleep.
  9. Invest in a good chair, pillow and mattress: When you think about the amount of time you use these things each day, it's worth it.
  10. Have regular spinal exams: It's much easier to prevent a problem than to correct one.

Spinal Degeneration

Proper spinal alignment is essential for healthy and pain-free living. When there is trauma to a joint, one of the ways your body responds is by attempting to stabilize the area by the formation of new bone. If left untreated, this ongoing degeneration (known as 'subluxation degeneration') can lead to chronic health problems such as migraines, joint pain, arthritis, and many other ailments.

Chiropractors are trained experts in identifying and treating vertebral subluxations. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to correct the vertebral subluxations in your spine.

These actual x-rays show how a proper course of chiropractic adjustments can correct these subluxations.
